Smart Sustainable Cities

The theme of the conference is “Smart Sustainable Cities” in recognition of the ongoing evolution in the MENA region that focuses on the deployment of “smart” technologies, operating principles, and policies.

“A Smart Sustainable City (SSC) is an innovative city that uses Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and other means to improve quality of life, efficiency of urban operation and services, and competitiveness, while ensuring that it meets the needs of present and future generations with respect to economic, social and environmental aspects.” ~ITU

The theme also underscores the importance of IoT technologies in making Smart Sustainable Cities applications a reality. The projects, papers, posters, presentations, and events at the conference are focused on contributions to nurture, cultivate, and accelerate the adoption of IoT technologies and applications for the benefit of society.

Three full days of original paper presentations, tutorials, workshops, keynotes, demonstrations, industry sessions and social events designed to further career opportunities and the in-depth understanding of the latest IoT and related fields advancements worldwide around our Smart Sustainable Cities theme.

Industry Summit

The GCIoT 2019 is being expanded this year to include a focused one-day Industry Summit as part of its industry track to address the needs of practitioners in the industry and promote cross-fertilization as an emphasis between private, public and academics to accelerate adoption and implementation. The Summit aims to bring together companies, senior industry leaders and experts to discuss the challenges in adopting and implementing IoT technologies.

Triple Helix
Exhibition

Triple Helix Exhibition

The triple helix model of innovation refers to a set of interactions between academia, industry, and governments, to foster economic and social development. This framework was first theorized by Henry Etzkowitz and Loet Leydesdorff in the 1990s, with the publication of “The Triple Helix, University-Industry-Government Relations: A laboratory for Knowledge-Based Economic Development”.

What is Lora?

LoRa (short for long range) is a spread spectrum modulation technique derived from chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technology. Semtech’s LoRa devices and wireless radio frequency technology (LoRa Technology) is a long range, low power wireless platform that has become the de facto technology for Internet of Things (IoT) networks worldwide.

LoRa Technology and the open LoRaWAN® protocol enable smart IoT applications that solve some of the biggest challenges facing our planet: energy management, natural resource reduction, pollution control, infrastructure efficiency, disaster prevention, and more. Semtech’s LoRa Technology has amassed several hundred known uses cases for smart cities, smart homes and buildings, smart agriculture, smart metering, smart supply chain and logistics, and more. With 105 million devices connected to networks in 100 countries and growing, LoRa Technology is the DNA of IoT, creating a Smarter Planet.

Why Should Attend?

  • Closing the Gap between Research and Implementation

At 2019 IEEE GCIOT you will be able to get together with people from a wide range of backgrounds, of whom you may not encounter at your workplace or institution. This is a perfect place for meeting with people in your field that you haven’t connected in a while.

  • Expand your knowledge and find solutions to problems

You will have the opportunity to talk to individuals such as Technical managers and researchers or entities like startups and universities, and they may even give you advice on how to enhance your own work.

  • Present your ideas

This is one of the more obvious reasons for attending IEEE GCIoT 2019 to present your work. It’s good practice in talking about what you do with a variety of people from similar, related and/or completely different areas of study. Presenting will make you more confident about the work that you do, and gives you new perspective about your work as people may ask questions that make you think about your project differently. Also you have the opportunity to get feedback on your work from people who have never seen it before and may provide new insight.

Looking forward to meeting you!
