Smart Sustainable Cities

“Smart Sustainable Cities” is the theme of the conference in recognition of the ongoing evolution in the MENA region that focuses on the deployment of “smart” technologies, operating principles, and policies.

“A Smart Sustainable City (SSC) is an innovative city that uses Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and other means to improve the quality of life, the efficiency of urban operations and services, and competitiveness, while ensuring that it meets the needs of present and future generations with respect to economic, social and environmental aspects.” ~ITU

The theme also highlights the importance of IoT technologies in making Smart Sustainable Cities applications a reality. All the projects, papers, posters, presentations, and events at the conference are focused on contributing to nurture, cultivate, and accelerate the adoption of IoT technologies and applications to benefit society.

Three full days of original paper presentations, tutorials, workshops, keynotes, demonstrations, industry sessions and social events designed to further career opportunities, and the in-depth understanding of the latest IoT advancements worldwide.

Industry Summit

The GCIoT 2019 is expanding this year to include a focused one-day Industry Summit as part of its industry track to address the needs of practitioners in the industry. It also intends to achieve a cross-fertilization between the private sector, the public sector and academia to accelerate the adoption and implementation of new technologies.
The Summit aims to bring together companies, senior industry leaders and experts to discuss the challenges in adopting and implementing IoT technologies.

Triple Helix
Exhibition

Triple Helix Exhibition

The Triple Helix Model of Innovation refers to a set of interactions between academia, industry, and governments that foster economic and social development.
This framework was first theorized by Henry Etzkowitz and Loet Leydesdorff in the 1990s, with the publication of “The Triple Helix, University-Industry-Government Relations: A laboratory for Knowledge-Based Economic Development”.

What is Lora?

LoRa (short for long range) is a spread spectrum modulation technique derived from chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technology. Semtech’s LoRa devices and wireless radio frequency technology (LoRa Technology) is a long range, low power wireless platform that has become the de facto technology for Internet of Things (IoT) networks worldwide. LoRa Technology and the open LoRaWAN® protocol enable smart IoT applications that solve some of the biggest challenges facing our planet: energy management, natural resource reduction, pollution control, infrastructure efficiency, disaster prevention, and more. Semtech’s LoRa Technology has amassed several hundred known use cases for smart cities, smart homes and buildings, smart agriculture, smart metering, smart supply chain and logistics, and more. With 105 million devices connected to networks in 100 countries and growing, LoRa Technology is the DNA of the IoT, creating a smarter planet.

Why Should Attend?

  • Bridging the Gap between Research and Implementation

In the 2019 IEEE GCIoT, you will be able to meet with people from a wide range of backgrounds, who you may not encounter at your workplace or institution. This is a perfect place for meeting with people in your field with whom you haven’t made contact in a while.

  • Expand your knowledge and find solutions to problems

You will have the opportunity to talk to individuals such as technical managers and researchers, or entities like startups and universities. They may even give you advice on how to enhance your own work.

  • Present your ideas

One more compelling reason to attend IEEE GCIoT 2019 is for you to present your work. It’s a good chance to practice presenting what you do before diverse people from similar, related, and/or completely different areas of study.
Presenting will increase your confidence in the work you do, and will give you a new perspective on your work. People may ask questions that will allow you to see your project from a different angle. You will also get the opportunity to receive feedback on your work from people who are seeing it for the first time, which can be quite insightful.

Looking forward to meeting you!
